Sunset Walks

The  first Lafkos/Milina village group Sunset Walk took place on a beautiful evening  last Thursday. A multinational  gathering (Dutch, French, Greek, British etc.) left the Lafkos plateia at 6.45  p.m. and passed along the track below the village to the start of Route B.  This shady kalderimi winds it way down  towards the sea, over a bridge, along a river gorge and then over the road and  past the tiny hamlet of Gla. At the  bottom of the hill we turned left on to an agricultural road through Pigiis and  up along another river valley towards the first of the chapels dedicated to the  two Aghios Giannis. At the second chapel we stopped for a  photograph before beginning the climb up the Xondriammo/Lafkos kalderimi to view  the sunset. It was spectacular and  well worth the effort.  The return  to Lafkos was by 9 p.m. and several of us stayed on for a meal at Syllogos  member Christina’s taverna in what has recently been termed the most beautiful  plateia in Greece. We were  delighted that eight of the group were new to our walks -χαιρετε
